Common Denominator: Contemporary Art

Art is beautiful because it is ephemeral. Manipulating paint in a way to create "pentiminti"...which is an Italian phrase meaning, something within the paint reveals a message which is not visible on the surface. Here are some contemporary artists who do just that.

Ode to Alberto Giacometti

"The human face is as strange to me as a countenance which, the more one looks at it, the more it closes itself off and escapes by the steps of unknown stairways".  -Alberto Giacometti

Keep it Upstairs

All from Ssense...latest online shopping endeavor I have embarked on. This ship is sailing on velvet waters. They offer French translation, a newsletter and represent and array of models. The layout of their images is forthcoming in the fact that there is a front back and side views, which all rotate at your leisure. The selection of designers is specific yet broad and the buyer for this website definitely maintains a consistent aesthetic.

SPENSER LITTLE

wire / shadow art

he was in the alexander salazar fine art gallery in la jolla this month. I was in awe, each piece is made from a singular string of wire or copper. A profound, self-taught artist with no formal art training- he takes inspiration (and recreates some pieces) from the mind blowing austrian artist Egon Schiele, who has been one of my primary sources of inspiration for years; so, naturally I was fixated.

Spenser Little introduces a whole new medium, when you see it in person -which you should make a point to do if you get the chance- you see that it's all about the shadow. The wire piece itself is mesmerizing, unfortunately in the photos here they just look like great sketches, BUT the shadow creates an entirely different image feeling&expression independent from the wire part. It's like two in one... incorporating hard, soft, light, and dark all in one piece of art.
He does custom portraits too..
Too good to be true.

I was drawn into the gallery by Schieles self portrait in crouching position emulated in wire.
